Help Build a Certification Program for Sensory Professionals!

Jason Newlon Members of the Society of Sensory Professionals—

Once again, I come to you seeking volunteers for a new effort being carried out under the SSP umbrella!

For several years, an effort has been underway with the Sensory Evaluation Committee (E-18) of ASTM to develop a program for the certification of sensory professionals. In the past several months, SSP leadership has been approached by ASTM sensory leadership to consider shifting that effort from ASTM to SSP.

The Executive Committee of SSP has agreed to continue this effort under the SSP umbrella. This is not an effort we enter into lightly or haphazardly, as both the foundation and the framework for the effort must be solid in order for the effort to be both successful and enduring. It is our expectation that this will be a well thought out and purposeful approach. We want to identify risks, address them head-on, and mitigate them. We want to identify and anticipate potential gaps in the process and close those gaps. Net, if we are going to do this, we want to do this right.

Towards that end, the efforts thus far under the ASTM umbrella meet those objectives—but there is much work left to be done.

Are you interested in contributing to and being a part of this effort? If so, the Certification Committee, under the leadership of Darla Hall, would be happy to hear from you! Please contact Darla directly at darlahall@researchvibe.com.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Darla.

As we are well into the swing of the season, please accept my best wishes for a safe, restful, and relaxing time spent with friends, family, and loved ones.

All the Best to You and Yours,

Jason W. Newlon
