The “Did you know?” area of the SSP web site will feature industry news and notes from our members.  The members-only News Blog will continue to feature news specific to the society and the main page will still show society announcements for the general public.

Please use the link on the Did-you-know area to submit material for consideration.  All submissions are subject to editing for compliance with SSP policies.  Final decisions whether to publish any submitted material rests with SSP.

The following are general publishing guidelines:

  • Beneficial to members
  • Has professional merit
  • Relevant to the field
  • Time sensitive
  • No advertisements

PhD Student Travel Award for Cross-Modal Sensory Research

The European Sensory Network (ESN) will award one PhD student with the opportunity to attend the next meeting of the ESN, to be held in Aarhus, Denmark, 25th -26th April, 2012.

The Award will provide travel expenses to and from the meeting, two nights accommodation, and an evening meal with colleagues. The Award provides an excellent networking opportunity for students with leading scientists in their field. The recipient will be invited to provide a 30 min presentation of their PhD work to ESN members and industry partners, and to participate in a 1-day research theme workshop that will focus on cross-modal sensory interactions.

The 2012 award is open to PhD students whose research addresses Cross-Modal Sensory Interactions, which may focus on biological or learning processes, or food, beverage, or non-food consumer products. Interactions may be within and between sensory modalities of taste, smell, texture, sound, and vision.

The Award will be based upon an abstract of your work not exceeding 300 words, which should be accompanied by a letter of recommendation by your primary PhD supervisor. These documents should be sent by email no later that 31st January, 2012, to:

The Institute for Perception 2011 Student Award Announcement

Applications for The Institute for Perception 2011 Student Award are now being accepted through January 21, 2012. This annual award recognizes outstanding talent in the study of sensory and cognitive processes. Any senior undergraduate or graduate student demonstrating an interest in pursuing a career in Sensory Science is eligible to apply.  Application requirements and entry mailing instrucrtions can be found on our website at http://www.ifpress.com/student-award/.
