The Society of Sensory Professionals is a 501(c) non-profit organization devoted to developing and promoting the field of sensory science.


Mission

To advance the field of sensory evaluation, including consumer research, and the role/work of sensory professionals, for the purpose of sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, mentoring and educating its members.


Openness

The society is an open organization and welcomes members in all parts of the globe. The organizing committee feels strongly that this society is largely a “virtual” (i.e., web based) entity and intends to provide a professional organization that can help link members and foster collaboration, education, scientific inquiry, and mentoring in the field.

Although the society does plan to hold bi-annual conferences in years other than Pangborn years, it is expected that these conferences may be more regional in focus, should not supersede the efforts of other regional conference organizers, and that collaboration with regional or national groups would be required to further develop this regional conference system. We welcome inquiries and we are happy to share our bylaws with other groups.


2012 Conference Call For Papers

Updated: The absract deadline has been extended to April 16!

If you have any interest in presenting an oral talk, workshop, or a poster at the society’s 2012 conference, “Managing Complexity to Drive Clarity”, the call for papers PDF is now available. The call for papers contains details on the type of papers that will be accepted, the mechanism for submission, and deadlines.

Note that all abstract submissions must be made using the online submission form. Workshop proposals should be submitted by email.

Second Wiki Student Contest Results

The wiki editorial board is pleased to announce the results of the second Sensory Wiki Student Competition. The first, second, and third-place winners are (1) Ellen Mahan, Pennsylvania State University, for Descriptive Skin Feel Analysis, (2) Ashley E Miller, Kansas State University, for The Sour-Bitter Confusion, and (3) Christie Ledeker, Kansas State University, for Split Plot Design.

Universities having entries among the top 10 include Cornell University, Drexel University, and University of Minnesota.

2011 Election Results

The Nominating Committee is pleased to announce the results of the 2011 society election.  Thanks to all of the members who participated in the voting process!

The membership was privileged to have had a slate of candidates all of whom were highly qualified for office.  It made for a difficult choice.  We wish to thank all candidates for generously agreeing to run and for their willingness to help lead the society.

The terms for the newly elected members of the Executive Committee terms start July 1.  The new officers are:

The 2011 society election is now open and will remain available through June 1. Please note that you must be logged into your SSP web account in order to vote! When you log in, a “2011 ballot” menu option will be available (second left menu option).

After you successfully complete your vote, you should receive a confirmation email. Please note, though, that the email may not arrive immediately.
