New Member Information

As a new member, you should try to familiarize yourself with the society web site as most member benefits are delivered through this site.

The main page of the web site is open to the public and, besides menu options, just features news snippets (headlines) of general interest.  For more detailed items and news of interest to members, you should consult the news blog.  The News Blog, as well as other members-only areas, will only be accessible when you are logged in.  Therefore, you will typically want to log into your account whenever you visit this site.  After you log in, the menu options will change to reflect the availability of members-only areas of the web site.

Please be sure to keep your membership profile current, particularly your email address and mailing address.  Most society communications will be either by email or online.  If you forget your password, a password reset link will be sent to your email address.  Also, for those electing to receive paper copies of The Journal of Sensory Society, they will be mailed to the address of record.  To access your membership profile, first log in, and then use the “Your Account” link in the top, right-hand corner of the web site.  Your mailing address will be found under the “edit profile” link.

The benefits of full membership include:

  • Subscription to The Journal of Sensory Studies
  • and online access to JSS through Wiley InterScience (note: online-only access is the default)
  • Beginning in 2010, online access to The Journal of Texture Studies through Wiley InterScience
  • Reduced conference fees
  • Access to conference presentations (through this web site)
  • Access to members-only discussion forums
  • Ability to directly contribute content to the Sensory Science Wiki (non-members may contribute through the editorial board)
  • Access to other members-only website features as they become available

(*) - Access to JSS online is only possible after you have logged into your account.  After you are logged in, you should see a menu option “Online Access to Journals (JoSS and JoTS)”, which will take you to a web page with information about the service, and a hyperlink called “Enter Wiley InterScience site for JoSS” that will take you into JSS online.  You do not need a Wiley account unless you want to take advantage of other Wiley services.  If you have elected to receive “print” copies (online only access is the default), generally speaking, you will receive the next available JSS print copy after your membership is activated.  You can check the status of issues under “Next Issue” on the JSS page (right-hand column).

Membership is on a calendar year basis.
